Heinzel purchases Papierfabrik SCA Graphic Laakirchen AG

The Heinzel Holding has purchased the entire stock of Papierfabrik SCA Graphic Laakirchen AG. The transaction will probably be completed in the first quarter of 2013, following the granting of approval by the anti-trust authorities.

The Laakirchen paper mill in Upper Austria has an annual output of 530,000t of SC paper, sales of EUR 310 million and a workforce of over 500. This acquisition also involves the purchase of a majority holding in the waste paper retailing company Bunzl & Biach. In addition, the Heinzel Group and SCA have joined forces in the sales area with a cooperation aimed at further consolidating the strengths of both sales organizations.
Owing to Heinzel Sales’ extensive network this will mean market expansion for the production locations of both groups, not only in Europe, but also in the global markets.

Alfred Heinzel, the Heinzel Group CEO is clearly satisfied: “With Laakirchen, we have enlarged our portfolio to include SC paper, waste paper recycling, agency and own pulp business and graphic papers. Consequently, the Heinzel Group will become a player with a large market share and excellent customer proximity in central and eastern Europe. Synergies such as additional sales volumes and partial pulp integration will be immediately realized. As far as waste paper retailing is concerned, a new sales strategy will be prepared for Austria and its neighbour countries.”
